Wearing a helmet and ensuring all passengers including children are wearing a helmet is the most important way to protect yourself and others in a crash.
There are other ways to protect yourself and your child when on the road;
- Limit the number of passengers carried on a motorcycle
- Position child passengers at the back and secure very small children with a seat and belt
- Avoid riding in bad weather, particularly if it is raining at night
- Wear bright clothing or reflective gear to increase visibility
- Always use headlights at night
- Drive to the conditions – reduce speed when it is raining or in heavy traffic
- Wear closed shoes to reduce injuries to the feet and toes
- Do not use your mobile phone when driving a motorbike
